Ergonomic handling in the electrical industry and energy sector: zero damage on your components, zero MSDs on your operators

Handling a probe card using the SCARA PARTS arm - ergonomic handling electrical industry

In brief

Ergonomic handling in the electrical industry is never optional: a damaged component during handling is never a minor incident, it is a delivery delay on an infrastructure project, a documented non-conformity, sometimes a costly rework on equipment that is already wired.

Ergonomic handling in the electrical industry demands precision, repeatability and zero uncontrolled contact on components with very high added value: transformers, electrical cabinets, switchgear, power components.

Neoditech offers two complementary solutions: the SCARA manipulator arm (50 to 100 kg, millimetre precision for component insertion) and the ERGO360 ergonomic positioner (100 to 200 kg, holding and orienting heavy sub-assemblies), including for applications in the nuclear energy sector.

French manufacturer since 2007, trusted by Schneider Electric, Framatome, General Electric, Legrand and Leroy Somer.

Why equip your electrical industry workshop with an ergonomic handling solution?

Switchgear, cabinet components, transformers, electrical sub-assemblies: these parts are handled dozens of times per shift, across assembly, wiring and inspection stages. Every uncontrolled movement is a risk. To the part. To the operator. To your delivery schedule.

Zero damage on components with very high added value

A switch poorly inserted into a transformer, a cabinet door scratched during assembly, an electronic component damaged by an impact: these are not minor scrap.

They are delivery delays on infrastructure projects, documented non-conformities, sometimes costly rework on equipment that is already wired. The functional surfaces of electrical components (connectors, contacts, insulators) tolerate no uncontrolled contact. Electrical cabinet handling equipment fitted with the right gripper holds the part firmly and under control, with no impact, no scratching. The movement stays precise, even at the end of a shift, even on large components or complex geometries.

Address musculoskeletal disorders at the source

Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) remain the leading cause of recognised occupational disease in France (Assurance Maladie). In electrical industry workshops, forced postures when inserting components into cabinets or transformers, repetitive wiring and screwing movements, and variable loads (5 kg one moment, 80 kg the next) with no way to adjust the workstation, expose your operators directly to these conditions. MSD prevention in the electrical industry starts with removing the load from the operator at the source: a manipulator arm cancels out the felt weight of the component, and the operator guides the movement with no effort.

Workstations open to every profile

Recruitment is tight in the electrical industry, and infrastructure and energy projects are placing growing demands on output. A workstation fitted with electrical component handling equipment demands no particular physical strength. Women and men, junior and senior operators alike, can sustain long shifts without physical strain. It is a concrete attractiveness lever and a visible commitment to occupational health.

Mobility built for the reality of electrical industry workshops

Electrical industry workshops have their own constraints: fixed wiring stations, cabinet assembly benches, testing and inspection zones, transformer assembly lines. Configurations that are often permanent but evolve with each project and production series. All our solutions can be configured to fit your layout constraints:

  • Electric wheeled base: autonomous movement between cabinet assembly or wiring stations, with no external help
  • Pallet-truck-moved base: quick repositioning when switching series or projects (36 kV cabinets one month, 400 V cabinets the next)
  • Floor-mounted base: for permanent, high-output stations (transformer assembly line, fixed wiring station), offering maximum rigidity

No permanent infrastructure required. As your project evolves, your equipment follows.

Real-world applications in your electrical industry workshops

Funding your investment

There is no single scheme in English-speaking markets equivalent to France’s FIPU, but real mechanisms exist to reduce the net cost of this type of equipment.

In the UK, the Annual Investment Allowance (AIA) lets most businesses deduct 100% of qualifying plant and machinery expenditure from taxable profits in the year of purchase, up to 1 million pounds per accounting period. Full details are available at gov.uk/capital-allowances.

Comparable accelerated-depreciation mechanisms exist in other English-speaking markets, for example Section 179 expensing in the United States and equivalent capital cost allowance provisions in Canada and Australia. Rules and thresholds vary by country and change over time, so we would recommend checking current figures with your accountant or national tax authority before you budget.

Why Neoditech?

Why choose Neoditech for your electrical industry and energy projects?

Neoditech is both designer and manufacturer. Every solution is designed, built and installed in our workshops in Mouzillon, Loire-Atlantique, France. Our in-house design office engineers the gripper for your specific component: geometry, material, contact fragility, surface constraints. Not an off-the-shelf gripper: a tool built for your part, tested under real conditions before delivery.

Our references in the electrical industry and energy sector: Schneider Electric, Framatome, General Electric, Legrand, Leroy Somer, STMicroelectronics, Saft. These manufacturers work to strict requirements on precision, traceability and compliance. We are used to that. Our teams work in your workshops with discretion, adapt to your site constraints and provide complete documentation for internal validation. For applications in the nuclear energy sector, our equipment has no network connectivity and no embedded intelligence: it generates no outgoing data flows.

What that means in practice:

  • Free, no-obligation on-site workstation assessment
  • Custom gripper design by our in-house design office
  • Manufactured in France, with controlled lead times
  • Installation in a few hours, with operator training delivered on site
  • CE marking, compliant with Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC

What our handling solutions don't cover

  • Loads above 200 kg: beyond the SWL of the ERGO360 ergonomic positioner, an overhead crane or a dedicated lifting system is the better fit.
  • Full automation with no operator: our equipment is designed to keep the operator at the centre of the process. If the goal is an autonomous line with no human intervention, a robotics integrator will serve you better.
  • Long-distance transfers: a manipulator arm works within a defined radius. For transfers of several dozen metres, a conveyor or an AGV is more appropriate.

FAQFrequently asked questions about handling in the electrical industry and energy sector

The SCARA manipulator arm is designed for these precision operations. Its articulated architecture lets it approach the component along a controlled, repeatable trajectory, with no jolt and no parasitic vibration. The gripper is custom-designed around the geometry of the component (suction cup, mechanical clamp or a specific tool) to ensure a firm grip with no contact on functional surfaces such as electrical contacts and insulators. The SCARA PARTS (50 kg) covers most power components; the SCARA TITAN (100 kg) handles heavier sub-assemblies.

The deciding factor is the operation. The SCARA is built for precision and insertion work: bringing a component to its exact position inside a transformer or cabinet, fitting a cabinet door with no scratching, inserting a sub-assembly along a repeatable trajectory. The ERGO360 is built for operations where the part needs to be held in position and oriented through every angle: assembling heavy sub-assemblies, checking wiring on every face, 360 degree quality control. Both can coexist in the same workshop depending on the production phase.

Yes. Our equipment consists of mechanical systems with no network connectivity and no embedded intelligence. It generates no outgoing data flows. Traceability of operations stays under the control of your own internal information system. We provide complete technical documentation (CE marking, compliance with Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, technical file) for validation by your quality and security teams. A prior workstation assessment confirms compatibility with your site’s specific requirements.

No. The SCARA manipulator arm is a mechanical piece of equipment, pneumatic or electric depending on the version. It does not generate electromagnetic fields capable of interfering with electrical components. The gripper is built from materials suited to your application (antistatic plastic, aluminium, stainless steel) depending on your workstation’s constraints. A prior workstation assessment confirms compatibility with your specific components.
