What is an industrial manipulator?
An industrial manipulator arm is a handling assistance device that allows an operator to move a load with minimal effort, the part remaining as if weightless.
The operator stays in control: they guide the arm, choose the movement and decide on the positioning. The manipulator amplifies their movement and carries the load for them. It is neither a robot nor a cobot: it is an extension of the operator, designed to eliminate hazardous movements (load carrying, twisting, repetition) while preserving the precision of manual work.

Why invest in an industrial manipulator?
In France, musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) are the leading cause of recognised occupational disease: they represented 87% of the cases recognised under the general scheme in the 2023 data. Manual handling of loads is one of the main contributing factors, which is why the INRS and EU-OSHA both recommend removing the risk at the source rather than relying on technique and training alone. Council Directive 90/269/EEC sets the same expectation for manual handling across the European Union.

Beyond prevention, a material handling manipulator improves quality and flow. Parts are positioned more accurately, damage and scrap fall, and the line no longer slows down as the shift progresses. How to choose the right industrial manipulator?
Choosing a handling solution is a sizing exercise before it is a purchasing decision.
Weight and nature of the load
Our ranges cover 10 to 200 kg. Beyond weight, the shape, rigidity and surface of the component determine the end effector type: pneumatic suction cup, mechanical clamp, electromagnet or bespoke tooling.
Mobility needs
Do you need to move your industrial manipulator very frequently? Opt for a mobile base with an electric drive wheel. Is moving it only occasional? Choose a mobile base with feet. If you have no need for mobility, our equipment can be anchored to the floor (except the Mobile Order Picker).
Gripper customization
The prehensor is what makes the load feel weightless: a custom gripper matches the geometry, the material and the hygiene requirements of your component. Clean room, wash-down zone, foundry or cold store, each environment imposes its own materials and protection ratings, and we build these constraints in from the first study.
Frequently asked questions about industrial handling and Neoditech products
An industrial manipulator is always guided by an operator, who decides where the load goes while the machine carries its weight. An industrial robot follows a pre-programmed sequence autonomously. Under ISO 8373, a device that is automatically controlled, reprogrammable and programmable in three or more axes qualifies as a robot, whereas a continuously hand-guided device does not. The International Federation of Robotics draws the same line: a manipulator that an operator steers in real time falls outside that definition.
Our industrial manipulators cover loads from 10 to 100 kg, and the ERGO360° positioner supports up to 200 kg. Configurations above that range are possible depending on the kinematics and the gripping solution.
No specific certification is required. A manipulator is intuitive: the operator guides the load with a control handle, and the machine neutralises the weight. We still deliver on-site training for operators and maintenance teams during commissioning, covering daily use, end effector changes and basic checks.
Yes. Most of our projects are retrofits on existing lines. During the initial audit we check structures, headroom, access and safety constraints, then mount the manipulator depending on what the plant allows. Integration is handled by our own teams, which limits disruption to production.
By removing the two main causes of musculoskeletal disorders in handling: the effort required to support a load and the awkward postures that come with it. When the weight is neutralised, the operator can position the part with a comfortable posture and controlled movement.
Very little. Our manipulators are robust mechanical systems with no complex electronic components in the loading circuit; routine maintenance is therefore limited to periodic visual inspections of more sensitive parts, such as the gripper or suction tubes, for example. Lubrication of certain parts is also required. We supply replacement parts and offer maintenance contracts, and our teams are available to perform adjustments and upgrades as your production evolves.
